Simple Finals Assessment

For part 1 simple finals, you have two assignments.

Assignment 1 (12pts): Make your own pinyin flash cards. I have attached an example below.

Requirements for assessment 1:

  1. Make 1 flashcard for each simple final.

  2. Each flashcard must contain a front side and a back side.

  3. The front side needs to show the pinyin letter and its type.

  4. The back side needs to show the pinyin letter, similar pronunciation in English (or any other language you are familiar with), and pronunciation tips.

  5. Must be handwritten flashcards (The example is digital because I do not have any flashcards at hand right now).

  6. Post it on our padlet page: https://padlet.com/jwang109/wbe4eevyxukax04k

Don't just rely on the lesson video for ideas. Do your own research for each final. For example, I got the "serve" example from the following YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETjui473zak

Assignment 2 (9pts):

Practice pronouncing the 6 simple finals. Record your pronunciation and post it on flipgrid. I will listen to it and give feedbacks.

To post the video, go to https://info.flipgrid.com and enter the code: 867e2958.

Grading scale (21pts total):    20/21 - A;   18/21 - B;   16/21 - C;   14/21; - F

Summary:

Pinyin is divided into two big categories: Initials (consonants) and Finals (vowels).

Finals are further divided into three main categories: Simple Finals, Compound Finals, and Nasal Finals (though there is an additional Special "er").

We covered the 6 Simple Finals in this lesson (a o e i u ü) and will cover Compound Finals in part 2.
