Many say that speaking Chinese sounds like singing. This is because there are 5 tones in Chinese : 4 main tones and 1 neutral tone.

Why are tones important?

Tones are often referred to as the most difficult part of learning Chinese Mandarin because it is not something most English speakers are aware of when speaking English.
